Becoming a maid of honor is one of the most beautiful and surreal experiences. It’s more than just standing beside my sister—it's about supporting her emotionally, helping everything run smoothly, and showing up feeling like your best self. I’ve learned that the prep starts way before the wedding weekend even begins, and I wanted to share my full breakdown—from beauty prep to packing tips—so you can feel organized, glowing, and ready to soak in every moment.

1. The Beauty Prep: Glowing from the Inside Out

Being a maid of honor means you’ll be in tons of photos, giving a speech, and spending the entire weekend surrounded by people—so feeling confident and fresh is key. Here’s what I focused on leading up to the big weekend:

  • Skin prep: I started about two weeks out by being extra diligent with my skincare—think hydrating masks, lymphatic drainage, Red light therapy, and facial SPF. I love the Medicube Salmon Collagen Jelly Mask and Lumineux Whitening Strips to keep everything bright and glowing. I even got a facial last week and my skin has been glowing ever since.

  • Brows, nails, and tan: A few days before the wedding, I booked a brow wax, got a fresh mani-pedi, and used my go-to Kopari Body oil every single night - my skin is buttery soft and has been glowing for days. Bonus points if you schedule a blowout or glam appointment the morning of the wedding. Which of course I did.

  • Makeup + emergency kit: Whether you're doing your own makeup or hiring someone, make sure you pack blotting sheets, lip liner, setting spray, safety pins, eyelash glue, waterproof mascara, and fashion tape. You’ll thank yourself later.

  • The night before: The day before we had to leave, I was already packed and use the evening to clean, do laundry, do an overnight hair mask, and and overnight face mask. I relaxed and kicked my feet up.

2. Packing Like a Pro

Packing for a wedding weekend as the maid of honor is its own category of luggage. You need options, backups, and the little extras that no one else remembers but everyone ends up needing. Here’s what made it into my suitcase:

  • Outfits:

    • Rehearsal dinner look - dress, shoes, clutch, jewelry

    • Getting-ready robe or matching PJ set

    • Wedding day heels + comfy reception shoes (trust me!)

    • Backup flats or sandals for dancing

    • Casual brunch outfit for the day after

  • Bridal emergency kit (mini version): Deodorant, fashion tape, bobby pins, double-sided tape, Advil, band-aids, and a portable phone charger.

  • Bridal Party Jewelry & Outfits: As the maid of honor, I was in charge of steaming the pj sets were getting ready in (Yes, I packed the steamer just in case) & the matching earrings and tennis bracelets. Little details, but they make a big difference for those getting-ready photos.

  • Beauty products: Travel-size everything. I keep a separate wedding-weekend beauty bag filled with my essentials: setting spray, blotting papers, perfume (I love DIME 7 Summers for summer weddings), mini dry shampoo and hairspray, and dove body deodorant spray - keeps me feeling fresh and smelling amazing all day long.

  • Speech essentials: I printed out my speech and saved a digital version on my phone just in case. I also brought a mini hairbrush, tissues (for both me and the bride), lipstick, and mints for right before I spoke.

3. Mental + Emotional Prep

Being the maid of honor comes with emotional highs and moments of chaos. My advice? Be the calm in the room. Bring extra energy, offer to help with the little things no one wants to deal with, and check in on the bride often (even if she says she’s fine). The best thing you can do is be present.

I also took a little time for myself before the weekend to center myself. Whether that’s journaling, a morning walk, or a slow coffee—those few quiet moments helped me feel grounded before all the excitement kicked in.

Final Thoughts

Being a maid of honor is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The love, laughter, and behind-the-scenes moments are memories you’ll carry forever. With a little prep (and a good packing list), you can walk into the weekend feeling organized, beautiful, and totally ready to celebrate your girl.

Beyond all the prep, the most important thing I’m bringing into this weekend is heart. It feels surreal to be standing beside my sister on one of the biggest days of her life. All the to-do lists and beauty rituals have been such a fun part of the buildup, but now it’s time to live in the moment, keep the bride calm and smiling, and soak in all the love

If you're stepping into maid-of-honor duties soon—save this post and check back in as your weekend approaches! 💌
