There’s something so satisfying about being that girl who breezes through the airport with just a carry-on and a large tote — no baggage claim stress, no overpacking guilt, and no “what was I thinking?” outfit moments. For my upcoming girls weekend in Miami, I challenged myself to do exactly that: pack only what I truly need (and still feel stylish, of course).

I’m heading down to visit my boyfriend’s sister with our friend Carsen, and we have a fun, full weekend planned — think beach mornings, shopping days, sushi dinners, and cozy movie nights. With a little bit of planning and smart outfit repeating, I was able to fit everything into my carry-on and large purse without sacrificing style or comfort.

Here’s exactly what I’m bringing, how I’m styling it, and how to make the most of a mini getaway wardrobe.

✈️ Trip Overview

Destination: Miami, FL Length: 3 days, 2 nights (Friday–Sunday) Travel Crew: My boyfriend’s sister + our friend Carsen Vibe: Girls weekend — chic but relaxed, think sunshine, sushi, and shopping

Weekend Schedule

Friday:

  • Breakfast around Brickell

  • Shopping and exploring (possibly outlets)

  • Dinner at Sushi Bichi

  • Movie night (we might see Regretting You in theaters)

Saturday:

  • Breakfast at Sadelle’s

  • Farmers Market + exploring Coconut Grove

  • Pool or beach afternoon

  • Dinner out (location TBD, but somewhere nice!)

Sunday:

  • Breakfast or coffee at Maman

  • Beach walk + lunch at Bal Harbour

  • Fly home to Ohio in the evening

🧳 My Miami Packing List (Everything Fits in a Carry-On!)

When packing light, planning by outfit instead of by piece is key. I like to visualize what I’ll wear for each day — including accessories and shoes — and stick to a cohesive color palette so I can easily mix and match.

My Miami palette this trip: white, tan, blush, yellow, and pops of pink. Bright but wearable, perfect for sunny days and tropical dinners.

🩵 Thursday: Travel Outfit (and Re-wear Sunday)

  • Outfit: Comfy leggings, a simple tank or tee, a lightweight jacket or zip-up, and sneakers.

  • Details: I’ll wear this to the airport on Thursday and again on Sunday to fly home.

  • Style Tip: Choose neutral layers that can double as daytime outfits if needed. I always wear my bulkiest items (like sneakers and jackets) on the plane to save space.

💤 Sleepwear

  • 1 pair of lightweight PJs — I’ll wash and re-wear while I’m there.

💪 Friday Morning: Workout & Walk

  • Outfit: Antonio Melani black active romper, gianni bini oversized button down, and sneakers.

  • Plan: Morning workout + walk around Brickell before breakfast.

  • Tip: Bring one workout outfit in a breathable fabric and plan to wash/re-wear. Miami’s humidity means quick-drying pieces are your best friend!

👗 Friday Day/Night: Casual Shopping + Dinner at Sushi Bichi

  • Outfit: A cute skirt + top combo or knit dress. I’m thinking something flirty but easy to walk in — maybe a neutral mini skirt with a cropped or fitted top. Thinking my yellow knit dress from Target.

  • Shoes: White sandals or low block heels.

  • Bag: Small crossbody or woven clutch for dinner.

  • Style Note: Miami dinners are the perfect excuse for a little glam moment — I’ll bring gold jewelry, a glossy lip, and maybe a sleek bun or waves for that effortless “put together” vibe.

🐚 Saturday: Beach, Farmers Market & Dinner

Daytime:

  • Swimsuit + Cover-Up + Sandals

  • Casual Outfit: My custom “Sweet Caroline” tank with white shorts or a pink skirt.

  • Accessories: Sunglasses, woven tote, SPF, and a cute claw clip for easy beach hair.

Evening:

  • Outfit: My yellow Meshki dress with white heeled sandals.

  • Vibe: Bright, fun, and perfectly Miami for a nice dinner out.

  • Style Tip: A lightweight statement dress is ideal for warm nights — it looks stunning but takes up minimal space in your suitcase.

🎾 Sunday: Coffee, Beach Walk, & Travel Home

  • Outfit: Tennis dress and sneakers for a comfy, sporty morning.

  • Add-ons: Light jacket (same one from travel), minimal makeup, hair slicked back.

  • Travel Look: Re-wear my Thursday airport outfit to fly home.

👜 Carry-On Packing Tips

After a few trial runs, I’ve figured out a few foolproof strategies for carry-on-only trips:

1. Use Packing Cubes

They’re life-changing. I use one for clothes, one for underwear/swimwear, and one for accessories. They make everything feel organized and maximize every inch of space.

2. Stick to One Shoe Per Category

  • Sneakers for walking and travel

  • White sandals for daytime + dinners

  • Optional: one pair of small heels if you’re planning something fancy

3. Multi-Use Beauty Products

Pack a tinted moisturizer with SPF, a lip + cheek tint, and a mini hair oil. Travel-size everything and keep it simple — Miami humidity doesn’t play fair with heavy makeup anyway.

4. Re-wear Intentionally

Re-wear your travel outfit, workout set, and pajamas. Choose breathable materials and light colors that layer easily.

5. Large Purse = Bonus Storage

Your personal item can hold your tech, small toiletries, snacks, sunglasses, and one “just in case” outfit like a simple dress or romper.

👒 Final Touches: Accessories & Essentials

  • Sunglasses (one neutral, one fun pair)

  • Gold hoops + dainty jewelry

  • Claw clip + scrunchie

  • Mini perfume

  • Sunscreen & SPF lip balm

  • Small crossbody bag

  • Portable charger

  • Kindle or book for the flight

🌴 The Carry-On Mindset

Packing in just a carry-on for a weekend trip isn’t just about saving space — it’s about traveling intentionally. It forces you to think about what you actually wear, what feels like you, and how to create more with less.

I love that this trip will be all about sunshine, connection, and a little Miami glam — without the chaos of overpacking. Plus, when your bag fits in the overhead bin, you’re officially winning.

Here’s to weekend getaways, golden-hour dinners, and proving that less really can be more. ✨
