Thanksgiving has always been one of my favorite holidays — it’s that perfect blend of cozy comfort, family, and food that just feels like home. Whether you’re hosting a big family gathering or a more intimate dinner with close friends, there’s something so special about creating a warm and welcoming space for everyone to come together.

This year, I’m sharing my full guide to hosting Thanksgiving — from the food and table decor to the outfits and ambiance — to help you plan a beautiful, stress-free, and memorable celebration.

🦃 The Food: Classic with a Twist

Let’s start with the heart of the holiday — the food. While I love a traditional Thanksgiving menu, I also like to add one or two fun, modern touches each year. Here’s what I’m planning for the menu this year:

Main Course

  • Herb Butter Turkey: A classic roast turkey brushed with herb butter and stuffed with fresh rosemary, thyme, lemon, and garlic. The house smells heavenly while it cooks.

  • Maple Glazed Ham: For anyone who’s not a huge turkey lover, this sweet and savory option is always a hit.

Sides

  • Creamy Garlic Mashed Potatoes — Fluffy, buttery, and always a crowd-pleaser.

  • Brown Butter Green Beans with Crispy Shallots — Fresh, light, and the perfect balance to heavier dishes.

  • Cornbread Stuffing with Sausage and Apples — Sweet, savory, and the most comforting side dish ever.

  • Sweet Potato Casserole with Pecan Topping — I make mine with less sugar and extra cinnamon — so good!

  • Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Balsamic Glaze — A personal favorite that adds a bit of color to the table.

Desserts

  • Classic Pumpkin Pie — Topped with homemade whipped cream, of course.

  • Apple Crisp with Vanilla Ice Cream — Warm, cozy, and easy to make ahead.

  • Mini Pecan Tarts — Perfect for guests who just want a little something sweet after dinner.

Drinks

  • A signature cocktail or mocktail always makes things feel special. I love making a Cranberry spritz with gingerale — it’s festive, easy to prep ahead, and looks so pretty in a glass pitcher.

🍽️ The Table Setting: Simple, Elegant, and Cozy

When it comes to setting the Thanksgiving table, my philosophy is all about warmth meets sophistication. I love combining neutral tones with natural textures to create that effortless, inviting look.

My Go-To Table Setting Tips:

  1. Start with a neutral base: A linen or cotton tablecloth in ivory, beige, or soft taupe instantly feels elevated.

  2. Layer with texture: Add woven placemats, rattan chargers, or a textured runner for dimension.

  3. Mix and match dinnerware: I love combining white plates with gold flatware and vintage glassware — it’s timeless but interesting.

  4. Add soft candlelight: Nothing sets the mood like flickering candles. I love taper candles in brass holders scattered down the center of the table.

  5. Use natural elements: Incorporate eucalyptus, pinecones, dried oranges, or even mini pumpkins for a seasonal touch that feels organic and beautiful.

  6. Personal touches: Handwritten name cards or tied napkins with twine and a sprig of rosemary instantly make the table feel thoughtful and intentional.

🌾 The Decor: Cozy and Seasonal

Thanksgiving decor doesn’t have to be over the top — a few simple touches can make your home feel warm, festive, and welcoming.

Some of my favorite ways to decorate:

  • Front Porch: Layer festive doormats and add a mix of real and faux pumpkins in different sizes. A fall wreath ties it all together.

  • Living Room: Swap out lighter summer decor for cozier textures — think chunky knit throws, plaid pillows, and warm-toned candles.

  • Dining Area: Keep the decor cohesive with your table setting — fresh greenery or a garland centerpiece adds instant charm.

  • Kitchen: A simmer pot on the stove with cinnamon sticks, orange slices, and cloves makes your home smell amazing all day long.

👗 What to Wear: Chic but Comfortable

Thanksgiving is all about balance — you want to look cute, but comfort is key (especially when food and family photos are involved!). Here are a few outfit ideas I’m loving:

If You’re Hosting: Go for something polished but easy to move around in. A knit midi dress with boots is always a win — I love pairing mine with a cozy cardigan for a relaxed but put-together look.

If You’re a Guest: You can never go wrong with a flowy blouse tucked into tailored trousers or a satin midi skirt. It’s dressy enough for dinner but comfortable enough for lounging after dessert.

Cozy & Casual Option: If your Thanksgiving is more low-key, a matching sweater set or knit lounge co-ord looks chic while keeping you cozy.

Color Palette Ideas:

  • Neutrals (cream, taupe, and camel) for a timeless look

  • Deep tones (burgundy, forest green, or rust) for that fall vibe

  • Soft gold or metallic accents for a touch of holiday sparkle

Hosting Tips for a Stress-Free Thanksgiving

Hosting can be a little overwhelming, but with a bit of planning, it can actually feel fun and relaxing. Here’s what’s helped me:

  • Plan your menu early. Grocery stores get crazy close to Thanksgiving — make your list a week ahead.

  • Do what you can in advance. Prep casseroles, desserts, and sauces the day before.

  • Set the table early. I usually set mine the night before so it’s one less thing to think about.

  • Make a timeline. Write down when each dish needs to go in the oven so everything finishes together.

  • Delegate! Let guests bring a side or dessert — people love to contribute.

  • Remember the vibe. The goal isn’t perfection — it’s warmth, laughter, and gratitude.

🎁 Hostess gifts they will love

You can't forget a special hostess gift for those hosting you for a yummy festive dinner. here are some fun and festive ideas that you cant go wrong with:

  • A seasonal candle set

  • A kitchen towel and soap set

  • Gourmet olive oil and vinegar set

  • A festive Fall floral arrangement

  • Charcuterie board starter kit

  • A cozy throw blanket

  • A homemade treat in pretty packaging

  • Personalized serve wear

  • A bottle of wine

PRO TIP: Presentation is everything

Even simple gifts look elevated when you:

  • Add a handwritten tag

  • Wrap with burlap, twine, or kraft paper

  • Stick dried oranges, cinnamon sticks, or eucalyptus inside for a cozy touch

🕯️ Final Thoughts

Hosting Thanksgiving is one of those rare moments in life that combines everything I love — food, family, and creating a beautiful space for people I care about. It’s about slowing down, being present, and celebrating simple joys.

Whether you go all out with decor or keep it simple and cozy, remember that what makes Thanksgiving special isn’t how perfect the table looks — it’s the love and laughter shared around it.

So light your candles, pour yourself a glass of wine, and soak in every second of the day — messy kitchen and all.
