Fall 2026 Fashion: More Color, More Texture, More Personality
If there’s one thing I’m noticing about fashion right now, it’s this: We’re having fun again. After several seasons of quiet luxury, understated neutrals, minimalist wardrobes, and the idea that the chicest outfit is the one that barely looks like you tried, fashion is taking a much more playful turn. And honestly? I’m here for it.
Fall 2026 is bringing back color, prints, texture, statement accessories, dramatic details, and a whole lot of personality. The runways are embracing contrast and unexpected combinations, while everyday style is becoming less about owning the “perfect” neutral wardrobe and more about figuring out how to make your clothes feel like you. Think rich color combinations, mixed prints, textured fabrics, fringe, feathers, embellished pieces, fun shoes, oversized accessories, statement belts, interesting bags, and outfits that make you stop and look twice. This season’s biggest trend might simply be wearing what makes you happy. And I think that’s a pretty good fashion rule.
The End of Quiet Luxury?
Let’s start here. Quiet luxury isn’t necessarily disappearing completely. Classic tailoring, beautiful basics, quality fabrics, timeless coats, and neutral pieces will always have a place in a wardrobe. But the fashion conversation has definitely expanded. For a while, the formula was very much: cream sweater + tailored trousers + loafers + structured bag + gold jewelry.
Beautiful? Absolutely. But this season, we’re seeing fashion move toward something much more expressive. The Fall/Winter 2026 runways have been described as a shift toward a more maximalist, colorful approach, with designers playing with unexpected proportions, rich textures, embellishment, prints, and styling.
Now the formula might be: burgundy sweater + plaid skirt + animal-print shoes + statement belt + colorful bag + oversized earrings.
Or: cobalt blue coat + gray trousers + burgundy bag + printed scarf.
Or: floral dress + suede boots + fringe bag + oversized jewelry.
The point isn't that every outfit needs to be loud. It's that your outfit is allowed to have a little personality.
1. Color Is Having a Major Moment
One of my favorite things about this season is how much color we're seeing. Fall fashion doesn't have to mean living exclusively in black, brown, beige, camel, and gray. Those colors are beautiful, but there's something so much more exciting about adding unexpected color to your fall wardrobe. Fall 2026 color stories include everything from red, electric blue, royal purple, butter yellow, turquoise, peach, and burgundy to richer traditional autumn shades.
And you don't have to wear a bright color from head to toe. Start small. A red bag. A cobalt ballet flat. A burgundy belt. A butter-yellow sweater. A purple scarf. A pair of colorful earrings. A bright manicure. Suddenly, your everyday jeans and sweater outfit feels completely different.
Some color combinations I’m loving:
Burgundy + powder blue: Unexpected, feminine, and incredibly chic.
Olive green + plum: Earthy but still colorful.
Butter yellow + gray: Soft, fresh, and perfect for early fall.
Blue + brown: One of those combinations that somehow always works.
Maroon + light pink: A little romantic and a little unexpected.
Burgundy + yellow: Warm, rich, and very fall.
Cobalt blue + chocolate brown: A little more fashion-forward without feeling impossible to wear.
The trick with color is not necessarily finding the “perfect” combination. It's experimenting. Try taking two colors you wouldn't normally put together and see what happens.
2. Mix Your Prints — Yes, Really
Print mixing can feel intimidating, but this is one of the easiest ways to make your wardrobe feel more creative. And you don't need to go full maximalist immediately. Start with two prints that share a color.
For example:
Leopard + stripes
Plaid + floral
Polka dots + plaid
Zebra + stripes
Animal print + solid color
Floral + geometric print
The easiest rule? Keep one print larger and one smaller. A large floral skirt with a tiny striped sweater is much easier to balance than two equally busy prints competing for attention. You can also use accessories to test the trend. Try a leopard belt with a plaid blazer. A printed scarf with a striped sweater. Animal-print flats with a floral dress. A plaid coat with a striped shirt. Suddenly, you're not just wearing clothes. You're styling. And that distinction is everything.
3. 3D Fashion: Fringe, Feathers, Fur & Texture
If color is one of the biggest stories this season, texture is right behind it. Fall 2026 is embracing what I like to think of as 3D fashion — pieces that have movement, dimension, and something you can actually see and feel.
Think:
Fringe, Feathers, Faux fur, Embroidery, Beading, Sequins, Appliqués, Ruffles, Bows, Fringe-trimmed accessories, Textured knits, Embellished fabrics. Current Fall 2026 trend coverage has specifically highlighted heavy embellishment, feathers, beads, sequins, fringe, and other tactile details as part of the season's more maximalist direction. And I love this because texture instantly makes an outfit more interesting.
You don't need a completely dramatic outfit. A simple sweater + jeans can become: simple sweater + jeans + feather-trimmed bag.
A little black dress can become: little black dress + statement earrings + embellished shoes.
A basic coat can become: basic coat + dramatic scarf + oversized brooch.
Texture is a styling shortcut.
4. Red Is the Pop of the Season
If you're looking for one color to add to your wardrobe, I'd look at red. Red continues to show up strongly for Fall 2026, from full looks to smaller accessories. And you don't have to be a “red person” to wear it. In fact, accessories are probably my favorite way to introduce it. Try: Red ballet flats, R red handbag, A red belt, Red tights, A red cardigan, Red earrings, A red scarf, A red lip
The best part? Red works beautifully with so many fall colors.
Red + brown.
Red + navy.
Red + gray.
Red + burgundy.
Red + denim.
Red + olive.
Even a tiny pop can completely change an outfit.
5. Fun Shoes Are Back
I think we're officially entering the era of the interesting shoe. And I am not mad about it. Shoes are becoming less of an afterthought and more of an actual styling moment. We're seeing everything from embellished heels and statement flats to boots with interesting finishes, colors, shapes, textures, and details. Current Fall 2026 coverage has also highlighted maximalist footwear and embellished heels as part of the season's more expressive approach. And this doesn't mean you need an impractical pair of shoes. It can simply mean choosing something with a little more personality.
Think:
Animal-print ballet flats
Burgundy loafers
Colorful Mary Janes
Embellished flats
Pointed-toe boots
Tall suede boots
Statement knee-high boots
Metallic shoes
Printed pumps
Interesting heels
A great shoe can make a very simple outfit feel intentional. Jeans + white button-down + fun flats? Done. Black dress + statement boots? Done. Sweater + skirt + colorful Mary Janes? Done. Sometimes the shoe is the outfit.
6. Accessories Are Doing the Heavy Lifting
If you don't want to completely overhaul your wardrobe every season, this is the trend to pay attention to Accessories. Because one of the easiest ways to make an outfit feel current is to change the accessories. Fall 2026 accessories are leaning expressive, with statement hats, brooches, scarves, Western-inspired belts, charms, pearls, and dramatic jewelry all appearing in current trend coverage. And accessories are where I think you can have the most fun.
Statement Belts
A belt doesn't have to simply hold up your jeans.
Try: Western-inspired buckles, croc textures, colorful leather, oversized buckles, statement belts over coats, belts with dresses, belts with skirts
Jewelry
This season is not necessarily about wearing one tiny necklace and calling it a day.
Think: Oversized earrings, chunky bangles, layered necklaces, pearls, charm necklaces, statement rings, sculptural earrings, vintage-inspired jewelry
Bags
Your bag can be your pop of personality.
Try: Burgundy leather, animal print, suede, colorful bags, structured silhouettes, embellished bags, oversized totes, tiny evening bags, interesting shapes
Hats
And don't sleep on the hat. Statement hats are having a moment, with everything from structured felt styles to playful, personality-driven headwear appearing across Fall 2026 fashion coverage. A hat can make a basic outfit feel like a look.
7. Scarves Are More Than Just for Keeping Warm
The scarf is officially a styling accessory. And there are approximately one million ways to wear one. Tie a silk scarf around your neck. Wrap it around your handbag. Wear it as a headscarf. Tie it around your waist. Drape a larger scarf over a coat. Choose a fringe scarf for texture. Pick a colorful print to break up a neutral outfit. Current Fall 2026 accessory trends are putting particular emphasis on printed scarves, fringe scarves, and dramatic stoles. Basically: If an outfit feels like it's missing something, add a scarf.
8. Animal Prints Aren't Going Anywhere
Leopard, zebra, snake, croc — I'm still very much saying yes. But instead of thinking about animal print as an entire outfit, think about it as a neutral with personality. A leopard belt. Zebra ballet flats. Snake-print boots. A leopard bag. Croc-embossed leather. A printed skirt with a simple sweater. Animal print works particularly well with the rich colors of fall.
Try:
Leopard + burgundy
Zebra + cobalt
Snake + olive
Leopard + powder blue
Croc + chocolate brown
It adds instant interest without requiring a complicated outfit.
9. The Return of the Statement Jacket
Fall is basically jacket season, so naturally outerwear is getting a little more exciting too. Current Fall 2026 coverage is highlighting a wider range of colors, textures, prints, and silhouettes in outerwear, including vibrant shades and textured fabrics. Instead of automatically reaching for another black puffer or beige coat, consider: A suede jacket, a colorful coat, a plaid blazer, a cropped jacket, a leather jacket with interesting details, a barn jacket, a structured trench, a textured coat, a statement collar. Your coat is one of the first things people see during fall and winter. So why not make it part of the outfit?
10. More Is More — But It Still Has to Feel Like You
Here's the most important part of this entire trend conversation: You don't have to wear every trend. Maximalism doesn't mean putting on every statement piece you own and walking out the door. It's about intentional personality. Maybe your version of maximalism is a bright shoe. Maybe it's mixing leopard with stripes. Maybe it's an oversized pair of earrings. Maybe it's a colorful handbag. Maybe it's a statement belt. Maybe it's a bold red sweater. Maybe it's simply wearing three colors instead of one. The goal isn't to look like you walked straight off a runway. The goal is to look like you — but a little more inspired.
My Fall 2026 Styling Formula
When I'm getting dressed this fall, I'm thinking:
1 statement piece
A fun jacket, printed skirt, colorful sweater, statement shoe, etc.
1 unexpected color
Red, cobalt, butter yellow, burgundy, plum, turquoise...
1 interesting texture
Suede, fringe, faux fur, feathers, leather, embroidery, chunky knit...
1 fun accessory
A belt, scarf, bag, hat, earrings, brooch or statement necklace.
1 classic piece
Jeans, trousers, a button-down, simple sweater, blazer, etc. This keeps the outfit from feeling like too much while still giving it personality.
The Biggest Fall Fashion Trend? Having Fun.
I think that's ultimately what makes this season so exciting. Fashion is giving us permission to experiment again. To wear color. To mix prints. To wear the crazy shoes. To put on the giant earrings. To add the leopard bag. To wear the red sweater. To throw a scarf over everything. To wear something just because we love it.
The fashion world may be moving beyond the quiet-luxury moment, but that doesn't mean classic style is going anywhere. Instead, we're getting a little more freedom to combine the classic with the unexpected — and that's where personal style really starts to happen. So this fall, don't worry so much about whether something is “timeless.” Ask yourself: Do I love it? Does it make me feel good? Can I style it in a way that feels like me? Because the best trend this season might just be dressing for joy. ♡ And personally, I think we could all use a little more of that.
