One of my favorite traditions I’ve created for myself is hosting monthly craft nights. They’ve become something I truly look forward to—an excuse to slow down, get creative, and gather the people I love in a way that feels intentional and fun.
Over time, I’ve found a planning rhythm that makes hosting feel exciting instead of overwhelming. Today I’m sharing exactly how I plan and host my craft nights, step by step, from choosing a theme to setting up stations and styling the space. If you’ve ever wanted to host something similar but didn’t know where to start, this is for you.
Step 1: Pick the Theme (Everything Starts Here)
The very first thing I do is choose a theme. This sets the tone for everything that follows—from decor and colors to food, drinks, and the actual craft.
Once the theme is chosen, the rest truly becomes a snowball effect. Ideas start flowing naturally, and decisions feel easier because everything ties back to that central concept.
Some themes I’ve hosted so far include:
A “Summer I Turned Pretty” craft night
A cozy fall “Gilmore Girls” themed night
A festive New Year’s craft night
When choosing a theme, I like to think about:
The season
The overall vibe (cozy, festive, nostalgic, playful)
What kind of craft fits naturally with it
Step 2: Lock in the Basics (Date, Time & Guest List)
Once the theme is decided, I move on to the logistics:
Date
Start time
Guest list
I typically keep my craft nights small and intimate, which makes planning easier and keeps the evening relaxed. I try to choose a time that allows everyone to unwind—usually an early evening start so it doesn’t feel rushed or too late.
Step 3: Create the Invite in Canva
Next, I design the invite in Canva. This is one of my favorite parts because it brings the theme to life visually.
I’ll include:
The theme and name of the craft night
Date and time
Location
Any notes about what we’ll be crafting or what guests should expect
Once the invite is done, it makes everything feel real—and honestly, it motivates me to start planning the details.
Step 4: Plan the Layout & Stations
After the invite is sent, I start thinking about the flow of the night and how I want the space to function.
I typically use:
Our front room as the main craft area
The wet bar as the drink station
The kitchen for savory food
The kitchen table as the dessert table
This setup works really well because it keeps things organized while still allowing people to move around, mingle, and explore each station naturally.
Step 5: Shop My Home First
Before buying anything new, I always take inventory of what I already own. Over time, I’ve built a solid collection of hosting staples that I reuse every month.
These include:
The same folding tables and chairs
White floor-length tablecloths
Serving trays and platters
Reusable cups and glassware
Candlestick holders
Using the same foundational pieces each time keeps things consistent and budget-friendly while still allowing the theme to shine through in other ways.
Step 6: Fill in the Theme-Specific Details
Once I know what I already have, I start filling in the gaps with theme-specific decor. This is where the fun really begins.
I’ll look for:
Placemats
Plates and napkins
Silverware (if themed)
Balloons
Extra decorations
I try to keep everything cohesive by sticking to a clear color palette that ties back to the theme. These smaller details are what make the night feel intentional and elevated.
Step 7: Candles, Flowers & Finishing Touches
Lighting and florals are non-negotiable for me. They instantly set the mood.
I plan out:
Specific candle colors that match the theme
A mix of taper, pillar, or floating candles
Flower types and color palettes
I always try to use real flowers, even if it’s just a few simple arrangements. They add life, softness, and a sense of warmth to the space that nothing else quite matches.
Step 8: Plan the Craft & Supplies
Once decor is handled, I focus on the craft itself. I make sure I have:
All necessary supplies
Extra tools or materials
Clear stations set up so guests can jump right in
I like to lay everything out neatly ahead of time so when guests arrive, the night feels relaxed and easy—not chaotic or rushed.
Step 9: Food, Drinks & Desserts
I keep the food simple but thoughtful. Nothing too complicated—just things that feel fun and on-theme.
Drinks are always at the wet bar
Savory food stays in the kitchen
Desserts get their own moment at the kitchen table
I love separating these areas because it keeps the main craft space uncluttered and allows each part of the night to shine.
Step 10: Enjoy the Night
Once everything is set up, my only job is to enjoy it. That’s the whole point.
Monthly craft nights have become such a meaningful ritual for me. They’re creative, calming, and a reminder that hosting doesn’t have to be perfect—it just has to feel intentional.
Final Thoughts
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that hosting gets easier the more you do it. Having a system, reusing your core pieces, and planning around a theme makes everything feel manageable and fun.
If you’ve been thinking about hosting something similar, let this be your sign to start small, pick a theme you love, and go from there. You might just create a tradition you look forward to every single month 🤍
